Best brain games to try after Sudoku

If filling in a clean, fully-solved Sudoku grid is satisfying, these three free browser games give a similar payoff in a different shape.

2048 — build toward one big number

2048 is a single running board, like Sudoku, but instead of placing fixed digits you slide and merge numbered tiles on a 4x4 grid, working toward the 2048 tile and beyond. It trades Sudoku's constraint-checking for short-term planning — a different kind of "think ahead" puzzle on the same one-board-at-a-time format.

Sokoban — a puzzle you walk through, not fill in

Sokoban hands you a warehouse keeper and a set of crates to push onto goal tiles — crates can only be pushed, never pulled, so one wrong move can force a restart. Every level ships with a verified solution (nothing is ever actually unsolvable), the same promise Sudoku makes about its puzzles.

Minesweeper — logic clues, no guessing

Minesweeper is probably the closest cousin here: a grid of numbered clues you use to deduce where the mines are, with every board here solvable by logic alone — no guessing required, just like a well-formed Sudoku puzzle only ever has one solution.

All three are free, work on a phone or a desktop, and don't require an account to start playing — same as this Sudoku.
